July 27, 2010 was the 2nd anniversary of Owen's death. We decided to mark the day by spending time doing things he liked best with the people close to us in Woodstock (some of Owen's favorite people). We settled on baseball, swimming and eating. Twenty people ages 6-68 played a friendly game of baseball. It was fun enough that everyone got a hit but competitive enough that we kept score--Owen wouldn't have allowed it any other way. Then we went to the cemetery where we all wrote a note on a balloon and released it. Watching it go up to the sky was the highlight of the day. We gathered all the rocks on the headstone from the last 2 years and brought them back to our house. We plan to place them around the Japanese Maple we planted for Owen 2 years ago. The evening was rounded out by swimming and eating--salmon, steak, grilled cheese with bacon, AND flourless chocolate cake. All in all a very appropriate day to remember Owen and do the things he loved to do.
